For some women, menopause can happen early due to surgical intervention where the ovaries are removed, or there’s damage to the ovaries because of chemotherapy or radiation treatment.3
Happens when the ovaries stop functioning before 40 years and is often linked to smoking, radiation exposure, chemotherapy, or surgery.2 Research shows 1 in 100 women develop menopause before 40.5 This condition is also called primary ovarian insufficiency (POI).4
